No More Special Interest Politics at the DNC

This weekend, state Democratic Party leaders will gather to debate who should chair the Democratic National Committee (DNC) for the next four years. If they vote as a bloc within the DNC, they could well determine who becomes the next national Party leader.

The election for chair is rarely competitive. But this year, with the race wide open, we have the chance to elect a leader who can reconnect the Party with its constituents -- us.

In 2004, something incredible happened: The Kerry campaign and the DNC raised over $300 million in grassroots contributions between them, and proved that the Party doesn't need corporate cash to be competitive. Now we have an historic opportunity to birth a new Democratic Party -- a Party of the people that's funded by the people and that fights for the people. Democrats: tell your state Party leaders:

"Please support a DNC chair who will declare independence from special interest politics and reconnect the Democratic Party with all of us outside of Washington, DC."

A compiled petition with your individual comments will be presented to the Democratic Party leaders from your state who are DNC members.

For petitions and surveys you've signed or completed, we treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information - for example, we may provide compilations of petitions, with your comments, to the President and legislators, other targets, or to the press. We will not make your street address publicly available, but we may transmit it to members of Congress and to the President as part of a petition. This is a standard industry practice in such situations. In no such case will we disclose your email address or phone number without your permission. We may also make your comments, along with your first name, city and state available to the press and public online.

Under circumstances where we determine that members may be misusing our systems for malicious purposes (for example, using the numbers we provide to make harassing phone calls), such activities may be reported to law enforcement agencies. In such cases, MoveOn may release personally identifiable information, including name and address, to those agencies.

Sending Emails Via MoveOn.org Political Action

In certain cases, we enable you to send individual e-mails to the President, legislators, and other targets as well as Letters-to-the-Editor to various news publications, through our website. These messages are sent in your name, with your e-mail address as the return address and your full name and contact information is provided as part of the submission. These messages will only be sent out under your name as you approve them on an individual basis using our email tool. You are solely responsible for the specific message(s) you send using our email tool.
